On any ordinary Sunday, the grounds of Kitante Primary School sit quietly beside the historic Uganda Museum. But on May 3rd, 2026, the space will pulse with a different kind of energy—one that blends sport, solidarity, and the enduring fight for truth.
In a symbolic and timely gesture, the Corporate Sports Network (CSN) has partnered with Uganda’s media fraternity to commemorate World Press Freedom Day through a football gala that promises more than just goals and glory.
According to CSN’s Mr. Charles Ssempagala, it is a statement—a declaration that the freedom of the press and the spirit of teamwork share a common heartbeat.
Under the theme “Shaping a Future at Peace”, journalists, editors, broadcasters, and corporate players will trade newsroom deadlines for football boots, stepping onto the pitch not just as competitors but as custodians of a shared cause.
From 8:00am to 6:00pm, the event will transform into a festival of unity, where the whistle does not only signal kick-off but also echoes a call for dialogue, accountability, and peaceful coexistence.
“CSN’s involvement goes beyond participation. By offering equipment and technical expertise, we are reinforcing our commitment to building bridges between the corporate world and the media—two powerful forces in shaping public discourse. Our decision to field a team adds a layer of friendship, turning the gala into a friendly contest where rivalry is secondary to purpose,” he said.
Mr Joseph Kwizera, one of the organisers, revealed that so far, at least ten teams have confirmed participation, with expectations rising as more media houses and partners rally behind the initiative. He expects the number to rise to 25.
As the ball rolls across the Kitante turf, it will symbolise more than a game in motion. It will represent resilience—the resilience of journalists who pursue truth and the collective will of institutions like CSN that recognise the importance of supporting that mission,” Kwizera said, adding that the gala will give media houses a chance to compete, connect, and celebrate freedom
