With 10 matches to go in the remaining two outings, Centenary Bank’s coach Martin Kaboggoza knows that nothing is guaranteed. “But I believe we can make it,” Kaboggoza at the former said Legends Rugby Club grounds in Lugogo Sunday.
“It doesn’t matter what our title rivals do; rather, what we do. We should have won the games we’ve drawn. But our title hopes are pretty much alive.”
Ahead of the final outing last season, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) was within touching distance of the CSN football (normal game) title. However, two frustrating draws saw them lose the title to Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (QCIL).
In the 2026 season, QCIL sit a distant 10th, leaving URA, Centenary Bank and Graphics Systems in the mix for the prestigious football title. Ahead of the September 27th outing, URA and Centenary were tied on 58 points, with Graphics Systems a whisker behind on 57 points. However, URA had played a game more.
On the outing at Kampala Club (Former Legends), Centenary Bank collected 10 points from 4 games after beating Movit and ABSA Bank 1-0 apiece, plus draws with Royal Van Zanten and Uganda Civil Aviation Authority. They sit on 68 points.
URA meant business. They won all their three games on the spin, defeating Roofings and Equity Bank by an identical (1-0) score, before drubbing Movit 3-0. It hoisted them to 67 points.
Graphic Systems benefitted from two walk overs against National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and DHL before drawing with Case Hospital to go to 65 points.
URA’s vice-captain, McDonald Mutyaba, is optimistic they will shed the nearly-men tag this year. “We want to win both the normal and 35+ titles,” he said.
He blamed last year’s fall on a lapse of concentration at a critical moment and is optimistic the nerves will not show again.
