Rain is often seen as a symbol of God’s blessing, favour, and refreshing in the Bible. We were drenched during the opening of the Corporate Sports Network league in March. Eight months and nine outings later, the early morning shower at the same venue, the Maroons Luzira Sports Grounds, on Sunday, 24 November, attested to the blessings and favour bestowed upon us as a fraternity.

We witnessed another exhilarating sports season with competition in varying disciplines that captured our hearts and imaginations throughout 2024.

Whether it was the photo finish during the swimming competition, the nail-biting pool game final, the drubbings in football, or the unexpected upsets in tug-of-war, this year gave us much to celebrate—and much to learn from.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this year’s season has been the sheer diversity of talent and drama displayed across a variety of sports. To the eventual winners in different disciplines and overall winners, we celebrate you. To those that turned up regardless of fortunes on the pitch, we salute you.

If 2024 proved  anything, it is that sports can be a powerful tool for uniting people and promoting social cohesion, as exhibited by the Corporate Sports Network.

We  witnessed shared values like respect, discipline, teamwork, and fairness. CSN gave   the participants a purpose and a shared sense of belonging, notably through the monthly birthday baby celebrations.

However, the year wasn’t without its challenges. Sporadic cases of on-field indiscipline manifested that left many questioning the integrity of the game. These moments serve as a reminder that sports, for all their glamour and excitement, are still deeply intertwined with human flaws and imperfections. We can do better next season.

Off the field, we were bereaved and lost some of our colleagues, which left us shaken to the core. We grieve as a family and greatly encourage acts of kindness through condolences to the bereaved families. Eternal repose to the departed souls. Even for those present, we have had cases of individuals grappling with mental health struggles, highlighting the growing importance of mental well-being. As a CSN family, we need to make deliberate strides in having honest conversations around mental health.

As we prepare to turn the page on this remarkable year, the promise of 2025 looms large. There are fresh rivalries to be formed, new stars to be born, and countless opportunities for teams and athletes to leave their mark on Corporate Sports Network (CSN) history. Congratulations to the winners. To the “nearly winners,” take comfort in the knowledge that every season comes a new chance to dream, to hope, and to witness greatness in action.

The year 2024 gave us more than we could have asked for—and the future looks just as bright.
