Quality Chemicals Industries Limited has been called the Leicester FC of Corporate Sports Network (CSN) football.
This is because, like Leicester in the English Premier League in 2016, they cannot stop winning and are on the cusp of lifting their maiden trophy in football.
The team showed they meant business at the final outing held at the former Legends Rugby Grounds in Lugogo.
Going into the final outing, QCIL led the table log with 84 points after 33 games. Close on their heels were Uganda Revenue Authority on 82 points, 2024 defending champions Tropical Bank on 81 points and Uganda Breweries Limited on 80 points.
The trick, however, was that the teams in contention were, as per the fixture list, tasked to play each other. Quality Chemicals started off strongly, defeating DHL by 5-1.
Around the same time, URA could only draw 1-1 with Uganda Bureau of Statistics, while Tropical Bank and Centenary Bank managed a scoreless draw. Vision Group’s scoreless draw with URA meant that eventual champions, QCIL, had their hands on the trophy even before playing their final game against UBL.
To say it was a dull affair is an understatement. It ended 0-0, and the QCIL players and fans broke into celebrations.
For QCIL, the coach’s philosophy was simple. He locked out teams. His solid defence conceded only 9 goals, while the goal machines have scored an impressive 45 goals. “Goals win you games but a solid defence wins you titles,” their coach said.
