Centenary Bank survived a spirited fight from taxmen Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to emerge winners of the 2025 edition of Corporate Sports Network’s volleyball edition at the Maroons Stadium in Luzira on Sunday

The bankers, buoyed by a strong team of fans blowing Vuvuzelas, won the first set 25- 16 and looked like they were in for a smooth cruise where they would win in two straight sets.   Their centre players, Silver Okiring and Mark Okurut, were in blistering form

However, URA, boosted by a mix of youthful and experienced players, was no pushover.

In the second set, they avenged with a hard-fought 25-22 win, sending the game into a deciding 3rd set.  With no lady on the team, they faced the challenge of fielding a team less by one.  They were, however, not fazed.

Centenary Bank started the deciding set with power and determination, with Okiring back in the centre position, but Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has other ideas. They scored spike after spike, and at one point looked like they were geared up for the victory.

The losing finalists URA coulsnt believe they let the gold medal slip out of their hands

They led 18-17 at one point, with Joel Okello and Akanyijuka the thorn in Centenary Bank’s flesh.

This prompted the vuvuzelas from Centenary Bank to go silent for a while.  URA’s manager and Corporate Sports Network’s BOD member, Moses Kaduyu, broke into a choreographed dance as he smelled a victory.

However, Centenary Bank’s Okiring weaved his magic and steered the team to a 25-22 win.

Centenary Bank spared no expense to ensure the trophy was in the bag. Shortly after striking gold with the last spike, fans and the bank’s netball players crowded the court.

The victorious team was dressed in all-white T-shirts, reading, “2025 Champions.”

The players, managers, and coaches were later handed medals by Corporate Sports Network’s Board Chairperson, Mike Kajubi. They celebrated into the night.

In the third-place place play off, Bankers DFCU defeated Haris International by 2-0.  They won bronze.
