The stakes were high as the Corporate Sports Network darts competition reached the penultimate stage after two outings.
Following the second outing at the former Gems Cambridge International School in Luzira, group leaders in both the men and women categories were known.
These qualified for the next stage, which was played on Luzira Maroon’s grounds on Sunday, June 29.
After pulsating games,  Jeniffer Adong of Crown Beverages Limited was declared the gold medal winner.  She defeated a determined Loyce Nambaziira from Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), who settled for silver.   In the  bronze medal position was Hotel Africana’s Charlotte Nabiyiki.

In the men’s category, which also saw tight competition, much-fancied Peter Oyodria, who walked with the swagger of a champion from the  beginning, edged the lanky Simon Odeke from DFCU Bank. Daudi Ssimbwa from Post Bank took third position.
According to the umpires, the competition, which started with over 35 companies, showed that there is talent among the crop of players, some of whom can be nurtured to represent the national team.

Although introduced this year, it has seen thrilling performances, unexpected upsets, and unwavering focus from the top contenders in both the women and men’s categories.

” For some, we have witnessed clinical precision. We were forced to ask whether they play in professional leagues. There are also some confessed first-timers, whose underdog story has captured the imagination of the fans,” one of the umpires, Mr. Kateregga, revealed.

Kateregga was hard-pressed to pinpoint a clear favourite before the finals. ”Many (both men and women) have shown consistent form and strategic play.

He says that  the games lived up to their high billing with high drama, intense matchups, nerves of steel, and pinpoint accuracy as the companies played for darts glory.

The players were crowned by former FIFA referee Catherine Adipo.
