Athletics Uganda organised a special athletics competition at Namboole Stadium on Saturday, June 7, bringing together legendary athletes and corporate participants as part of the federation’s 100-year anniversary celebrations.
The event that attracted a number of participants was among several activities marking a century of Athletics Uganda (formerly Uganda Athletics Federation) existence and contribution to sports in the country.
According to the organisers, the competition will feature three main events: a 10 km fun run for both men and women, a 4×100 m corporate relay (men and women), and a 2000 m steeplechase fun run. It was in the 4 x 100 metres corporate relay that Corporate Sports Network showed the other participants a clean pair of heels, winning gold.
They faced off with a team of elite athletes from MTN Uganda, teams A and B, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) teams A and B, Parliament, Prisons and Namboole Stadium.
Despite being placed in the outer lane, the Corporate Sports Network (CSN) team that comprised Emma Odeng, Dennis Rweheru, Emmanuel Mukasa and Bruno Ochom were too good for the opponents, winning gold. “This is incredible. Our team has won gold. We have a super team. “I am so proud of CSN,” Julie Makune of CSN said.
Olympic champions Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo officially flagged off the 10 km road race.
