The Corporate Sports Network’s March outing happened on Sunday at the Makerere University Business Grounds (MUBS).  Despite the failing weather, sports enthusiasts gathered for the engaging, family-friendly outing that blended the excitement of football, basketball, and darts.

Even though the outing is designed to showcase both sports, promote friendly competition, and foster community spirit, there was intense competition.  The spotlight was on debutants, Post Bank. Equity Bank, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), ABSA Bank, and Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA).

THE ERA team played like they were low on Yaka Units.

These enjoyed mixed fortunes on the pitch.  ABSA Bank showed they will not be pushovers.  They followed a 0-0 draw with famed Coca-Cola Beverages Africa with an entertaining 2-1 win over Crown Beverages (Pepsi). They steamrolled DHL International by 3-0.  After a heavy lunch and tired legs, their team looked lethargic as they went down 1-2 to Dfcu Bank.

Equity Bank, buoyed by a team that played a flamboyant passing game, kicked off with a win.  They defeated Roofings by a solitary goal and followed it with a 0-0 draw with a resolute Vision Group team that chest thumped after defeating Centenary Bank by 1-0.  Equity Bank defeated KCB Bank by a single goal and crowned it with a 1-1 draw with Jubilee Life Insurance.

Postbank struggled for goals. A 0-0 stalemate with KCB Bank was followed by another goalless draw with Quality Chemicals Industry Limited. They also registered a 0-0 draw with Mogo Loans.  They, however, gritted their teeth and edged Platinum Credit by a solitary goal and drowned in deafening cheers.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority, smart in red jerseys, emblazoned with “Fumbisa yaka”, was the most cheerful team.  However, their team, which mainly comprised senior management, played like they were low on Yaka units.  For the record, they managed two 0-0 draws and two losses.   They scored one goal all outing. Even then, it was an own goal!    They, however, created an electric atmosphere with cheers and playful banter. With laWith Last year’s defending basketball champion, Phaneroo, a no-show, there will be a new champion. The basketball court came alive as teams showed early title credentials.   Uganda Revenue Authority, Harris International, Centenary Bank, and Hotel Africana Tropical Bank showed early champion credentials as they sunk in impressive shots as they won their games.

The basketball court comes alive as teams switch over from the football field. A friendly tournament kicks off, featuring 3-on-3 games where players of all ages can join in. Scores are kept, but the emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and community spirit. The crowd cheers as players make impressive shots, and young kids look on, wide-eyed, inspired by their older teammates.

During the intervals, participants and spectators were invited to acclimatise with darts.  A local coach led a skills clinic for darts that will be contested next month.

During the lunch break, there was cake cutting by the March babies, led by UETCL’s Florence Kizito and others.

After an exhilarating day of football, many gathered around the technical area to enjoy a music and comedy performance from the duo of Reign and Maulana.
